Vietnam’s pepper export scenario at end of April 2025 presents some interesting trends. Let’s break it down
Export Volume and Turnover
Vietnam exported 74,250 tons of pepper, with black pepper accounting for 63,124 tons and white pepper for 11,126 tons. The total export turnover reached $510.6 million, with black pepper contributing $423.2 million and white pepper $87.4 million.

Compared to the same period in 2024, export volume decreased by 10.6%, but export turnover increased by 45%. This significant increase in turnover is largely due to higher prices.
Average Export Prices
The average export price of black pepper was $6,750 per ton, up 96% from the previous year. White pepper prices reached $8,611 per ton, a 73.8% increase.
Key Export Markets
United States: 16,682 tons, accounting for 22.5% of the market share, although down 26.7% from the same period last year.
India 5,905 tons, with an 8% market share, up 6.4% year-over-year.
UAE*: 4,981 tons, holding a 6.7% market share, and up 42.2%.
Germany*: 4,952 tons, with a 6.7% market share, down 9.7%.
China*: 3,371 tons, accounting for 4.5% of the market share, and up 94.4%.
White Pepper Export Markets*:
China*: 1,557 tons
Germany*: 1,481 tons
United States*: 1,200 tons
Imports
Vietnam imported 15,374 tons of pepper, with 11,750 tons being black pepper and 3,624 tons white pepper.The total import turnover was $88.3 million, representing a 25.3% increase in volume and a 104.8% rise in turnover compared to the same period in 2024.
Week 19 witnessed prices easing off by 2000 -2500 Vietnam Dongs per kilo ( US$ 40-60 pmt ) and a very weak exchange rate against US$ and India Pak war besides the ongoing war with Russia and UKraine and Israel Palestine brought Prices in US$ terms for Bench Mark Vietnam 500 gl cleaned to USD 6675 pmt and 550 gl Asta to 6825 pmt and USD 6975 for 570 gl Asta and USD 9850 for DW White Asta all FOB HCMC for May/ June Shipment .Advise to follow markets on a regular basis and strike deals in further dips .
