Global Pepper Prices shows stability and chances for sudden Surge
Vietnam exported 120,000 metric tons (mts) in the first six months and imported 30,000 mts. With an estimated carry-over of 45,000-50,000 mts from last year and an anticipated crop of 170,000 mts (plus or minus 10,000 mts), the market is expected to remain highly volatile. Only Vietnamese origin produce and products currently benefit from a special 20% tariff. All other imported pepper, when re-exported, will be subject to the original country’s tariff. It will take some time to understand how this system evolves, especially since Vietnam has already exported tens of thousands of tons of imported cargo as Vietnamese origin. Managing the paperwork for re-exports within the stipulated timeframe will be very challenging for importers.
Brazil exported 50,000 mts in the first six months, with 50% of that going to Vietnam. Indonesian exports in the first six months reached 19,000 mts, an almost 150% increase compared to last year.
Given that the new crop in Vietnam is not due until March/April 2026, we recommend strategically planning your purchases during market dips. Vietnam is the only origin capable of fulfilling buyers’ needs, having become a global hub and a one-stop shop for all origins, offering both conventional and steam-sterilized pepper with pesticide guarantees.
