Vietnam Preparing for Lunar New Year / A Good Opportunity for Coverage for 1 st Quarter 2025

Vietnam pepper prices aren’t increasing as expected, despite low carryover stocks and a delayed 2025 crop. Several factors are contributing to this stable pricing.

Global Market Condition:

The global pepper market is currently stable, with prices in major producing countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil remaining steady. This stability is influencing Vietnam’s pepper prices.

Low Trading Activity
The pepper market is experiencing low trading activity, with farmers, agents, and exporters limiting sales in anticipation of higher prices after the Lunar New Year.
Delayed Harvest
While the delayed 2025 crop is expected to lead to higher prices, the impact is yet to be felt. The harvest, typically starting in February, is expected to begin in March or April 2025 due to drought and unpredictable weather conditions.
Chinese Demand
China’s pepper imports have increased, but the demand is not yet strong enough to drive up prices. However, experts expect China to increase purchases in 2025, which could contribute to price increases.

Overall, the combination of stable global market conditions, low trading activity, and delayed harvest is keeping Vietnam pepper prices relatively stable for now.

We urge importers to aggressively cover for the first quarter before the market is closed on 25 th January for Lunar Holidays and reopen only on 2nd January.
