Pepper Market Review Week 07 2025

Black and White Pepper prices remained steady and unchanged from last week. Chinese buyers were unwilling to pay the asking prices of local collectors beyond 162,000 Vietnam Dongs per Kilo for whole Black Pepper Bench Mark Quality (500 grams per Liter with 13.5% Moisture).

Only buyers needing immediate shipments were in the market. Many buyers anticipate that prices will likely correct and return to 150,000 Vietnam Dongs per kilo (the pre-Tet Holidays level) when arrivals peak in mid-March. While Chinese buyers are not actively purchasing, their continued buying could trigger a rally, as the global supply is limited, and the origin is reporting roughly half of its normal output.

A notable feature is the significant drop in carryover stocks from previous years. Additionally, 2025 new crop offers were available for delivery for the last week of February, which is considerably late compared to previous years. Global climate change has significantly impacted arrival patterns in all origins. The 2025 new crop from India has yet to hit the market, and local MG-1 prices remain at US$ 8000 pmt ex warehouse Cochin.

Buyers are advised to adopt a strategic approach to purchasing. Ensure full coverage for near-term requirements and consider covering further out positions from your partners at price dips if they are willing to speculate on some quantity.
