Pepper Markets remained very quiet in the import front as North American and European buyers have already wound their operations for Christmas and New Year. Origins which are mostly sold the 2024 crop were not making any drastic moves to obtain orders for 2025 The export statistics revealed Vietnam pushing India behind as a major hub for value addition of Black and white Pepper exporting close to 40,000 mts of Ground Black and White Pepper of various grinds from January November 2024 . Vietnam at the current rate is most likely to hit total exports of 250,000 mts of Pepper products in 2024 with an estimated crop by experts to the tune of 160,000 mts and with the help of 35000 mts of official imports from Brazil , Cambodia . and Laos and a huge carryover which was held back for quite some time has almost emptied the supply chain from that country .Brazilian exports could reach only 57000 mts in Jan through November Period with Vietnam and MENA region remaining the major importer of Brazilian Pepper and compared to last year Brazilian pepper exports were 28% lower compared to same period of 2023 where as Indonesia recorded a 114% increase over 2023 with 45000 mts in the January to October period and Vietnam the biggest importer of their pepper mostly bought by multinationals and leading exporters of that origin .
Exporters in Vietnam reports good demand from North America and European countries for 1 st quarter 2025 at current market levels in Vietnam.
Crop of 2025 is definitely delayed as Light Berries are offered reluctantly and one can expect new crop arrivals to enter only from mid March onwards only and one should plan inventory management right now to have the material in-store when you need it . Brazilian pepper with salmonella and pesticide issues has become the least preferred pepper amongst origins and was quoted US$ 6275 FOB according to IPC weekly Bulletin where as Vietnam Asta was quoted 7000 US$ FOB I domestic vainly at 6850 FOB and India leads the tally with US $ 7650 FOB
One should keep in mind Chinese imports were 84% lower compared to 2023 and Chinese have already entered the market for DW White and the others will have to follow their buying patterns.
